Dentons has announced the hire of partner Giangiacomo Olivi as Europe Head of Data Privacy and Co-Head of the Europe Media group. He will also lead these two groups in Italy. He joins from DLA Piper along with senior counsel Saverio Cavalcanti and Francesco Armaroli. In addition, Cristina Mura joins the TMT team from Italian law firm Portolano Cavallo.

Mr. Olivi is considered one of the best Italian lawyers in the TMT sector as testified by his tier 1 rankings in Chambers & Partners, The Legal 500 and other legal directories and by his many awards, including most recently, his inclusion in The Legal 500’s Hall of Fame for TMT.

Giangiacomo Olivi has significant experience in advising on outsourcing, data protection and media. He provides strategic legal and business advice to national and international clients and industrial associations.  He has led many of the most important technology and media deals in Italy in recent years. He teaches several data privacy, media and IT courses at the Università degli Studi di Milano.

Counsel Domenico Rettura joined the Tax team from Ludovici Piccone & Partners; associate Filippo Bodo joined the Employment team from Ughi and Nunziante; associate Luca Conte joined the Litigation and Arbitration team from Rinaldi and Associati; associate Francesco Paolo Sasso joined the Financial Services group from PwC; and associate Virgina Barni joined the Restructuring Insolvency and Bankruptcy team after working as in house counsel at Bassilichi S.p.A. (Nexi Group).

After just over two years since opening in Italy, Dentons now employs 107 lawyers and professionals in its Milan and Rome offices.
