Catch up on the latest Global Mining Center of Excellence Learning Session and hear Andrea Lemus Mesa, from the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF).

In this session Andea will focus on IGF's recent publication “What Makes Minerals and Metals Critical?", and address questions to consider when designing strategic policies and roadmaps regarding the minerals and metals that governments produce and/or need for resilient industrial supply chains.

As there is no consensus on the terminology to designate minerals and metals that are essential feedstock in digital and energy transition technologies, and for which there are supply chain challenges, the session also explores how minerals and metals could be considered as “strategic” or “critical” based on a series of objective criteria, such as mineral endowments, national development objectives and priorities, decarbonization and industrialization pathways.
