Join us for our monthly Legal update for Canadian employers series, a one-hour complimentary webinar series on workplace issues. This month, members of our Privacy & Cybersecurity team will share insights on how fast-moving privacy, AI, and biometrics issues are impacting not only workplace solutions, but workplace risk.  Employers must stay ahead of these changes to ensure their practices and adoption of new technologies are compliant with existing and evolving laws, and to avoid inadvertently introducing novel risks. This session will provide key insights into:

• Biometrics in the workplace – What counts as “biometric” information, and guidance from privacy regulators, including recent decisions from the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec, regarding the adoption and deployment of biometric solutions and the unique requirements in Quebec.
• HR platforms, AI & employee data management – Employers are increasingly using HR platforms to manage employee data and recruiting tasks. Many of these platforms have embedded or are embedding AI capabilities. Novel privacy risks and obligations are created by employers’ use of these platforms. Many employers are unaware of the use of AI, and may be required to update their privacy management programs, refresh consents, and revisit their contractual obligations.
• Managing and responding to employee access and correction requests – Recent trends in employee data subject access requests (including concerns from employees about their data being resident in the US), clarification of employers’ obligations when fielding these requests, and best practices for responding (what’s included, what’s excluded).
• Risk mitigation and compliance strategies – Practical guidance and recommendations for mitigating risks and ensuring compliance with respect to the above-mentioned topics.
