The new contribution period is effective as of January 1, 2023.

According to the reform to the IVM Regulations of the Costa Rican Social Security contribution (CCSS) implemented in 2020, the contribution of employers, salaried employees and the State is currently 10.66%. With the increase as of January 1, 2023, and until December 31, 2025, it becomes 11.16%.

Social security contributions with the new increase will be as follows:

• Employers: must pay an additional 0.17% for a total of 5.42%.
• Salaried employees: must pay an additional 0.17% for a total of 4.17%.
• State: must pay an additional 0.16% for a total of 1.57%.

In terms of total monthly contributions, as of January 1, 2023, the percentage of social security contributions increases by 0.17% for employers and employees, therefore, the employer's percentage will be 26.67% and the employee's percentage will be 10.67%.
