At the time of President Trump's inauguration, Dentons assessed what the new administration had in store for employers by looking at statements Trump made as a candidate and as president-elect. Now, more than 100 days into his administration, our employment team returns to analyze the president's budget proposal (specifically, whether his spending allocations back up his public statements about changes to employment, benefits and immigration regulations); the $1.1 trillion spending bill the House of Representatives passed to prevent a government shutdown (which only made light cuts to the DOL); and any subsequent budgetary formulations. By "following the money," employers can get a better sense of future compliance demands and enforcement risks, and prepare accordingly.

We will look at:

• President Trump's 2017 budget request and Congress's stopgap spending bill and what they portend for employment regulatory and enforcement activity
• Immigration policy and enforcement, including inconsistencies between the Hire American executive order and the emergency budget provisions
• Repeal and replacement of Obamacare and developments in employee wellness programs and paid family leave
• Whistleblower and retaliation issues
• NLRB developments, including joint employer liability and the right-to-work fight
• OFCCP developments, including repeal of Obama's Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces order
• OSHA developments, including the status of recordkeeping rules
• Wage-and-hour developments, including minimum wage and tip-pooling
• EEOC developments, including sexual orientation issues and equal pay for equal work
• DOJ's withdrawal of transgender guidance
• DOL's fiduciary rule delay
