Unpacking the legal risks of carbon transactions

On Finance Day at COP27, this panel will focus on mitigating the legal risks and harnessing opportunities of carbon transactions, throughout the carbon market ecosystem. Nature and technology-based carbon transactions in the ASEAN region can generate top-quality carbon credits and are therefore attracting massive investment in the sector. However, carbon markets are relatively new to the region and are currently facing regulatory and legal grey areas considering carbon credits are largely unregulated, and the existing agreements are bilateral between landowners/project developers and buyers of credits. This panel will discuss the nature of these legal and regulatory risks and explore mitigation measures so carbon transactions can become smoother in the near future. Achieving responsible supply of crucial minerals: why mining is part of the solution

As its role in the energy transition grows in importance, it is critical that the mining industry reforms as a responsible and sustainable actor in the climate fight. This panel will discuss the capacity of the mining industry in transforming energy supply and consumption, barriers to achieving the necessary supply of critical mineral mining and processing, and mechanisms to enable environmental and socially responsible practices. Keeping voluntary pledges on track for trust, transparency and impact
