Dentons is proud to announce that the Firm’s representation of Borrego Community Health Foundation has been selected as a 2024 recipient of the Turnaround Management Association’s (TMA) Non-Profit Company Turnaround/Transaction of the Year Award. Dentons’ Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy (RIB) practice helped guide Borrego, a nonprofit federally qualified health center, through its chapter 11 bankruptcy and restructuring.

The Dentons team implemented and executed a strategy that secured a court order stopping a threatened suspension of Medi-Cal reimbursements; obtained a comprehensive settlement with the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS); closed the sale of substantially all of Borrego’s assets; and confirmed a chapter 11 plan that paid allowed unsecured claims in full and DHCS pursuant to the settlement agreement. Their efforts allowed Borrego’s 18 clinics to continue providing vital and irreplaceable care to their almost 100,000 low-income and rural patients across Southern California, including HIV patients and the LGBTQIA+ community.

TMA identified Tania Moyron and Samuel Maizel, both RIB partners resident in Dentons’ Los Angeles office, as crucial to the success of the turnaround/transaction.
