Bratislava—The Košice City Court has ruled that the dismissal of whistleblower Mária Koránová from the Košice ambulance service is invalid and her employment continues. The verdict is not yet final, as there is a 15-day appeal period. Mária Koránová, who worked at the organization for more than 15 years, filed a criminal report with the police to draw attention to the suspicions she came across as chief economist. Her employer retaliated by terminating her employment based on redundancy.

Stanislav Ďurica commented, “We believe that this could be a trendsetting judgment, as it is the very first judgment in a whistleblowing case of this kind in Slovakia.”

"I am very satisfied, I have achieved what I have been fighting for five years," said Maria Koránová. She would like to go back to work in her original position.
