Edinburgh—Amanda Jones, partner in Dentons' UK Employment team, has been appointed Chair of the Women and Girls in Sport Advisory Board in Scotland. Her appointment takes effect immediately.

The Women and Girls in Sport Advisory Board was established by the Scottish Government to provide independent advice to the Minister for Public Health and Sport on female participation and awareness raising in all areas of sport and physical activity. The board focuses on 1) driving participation, marketing and awareness of Scottish women and girls in sport, and 2) ensuring every woman and girl in Scotland is given the opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity, no matter their background.

Key leaders from the world of women's sport, business and media make up the board's members. Amanda was appointed to the board in 2017 by Sport Minister Aileen Campbell.

Amanda is a well respected employment lawyer and was the first female lawyer in Scotland to be accredited as a specialist in both employment law and discrimination law by the Law Society of Scotland. In addition to her employment work, Amanda has a particular interest in sports and sports law. She is a non-executive director of Hibernian Football Club, the Hibernian Community Foundation and Lothian Racing Syndicate Limited, as well as a legal member of the Scottish Football Association (SFA) judicial panel and a member of various committees advising on SFA regulation. She is also co-chair of Inspire, Dentons' women's network in the UK.

Commenting on her appointment as Chair of the Women and Girls in Sport Advisory Board, Amanda Jones said, "The Scottish Government has pledged to increase the number of women and girls taking part in all sports at all levels, and the Women and Girls in Sport Advisory Board is helping to drive this forward – by raising awareness, changing perceptions, and generating further opportunities for female participation in sports and physical activity.
